We primarily haul fuel in 5 axle trailers on the winter roads, commonly referred to as the bush haul, and fuel in super b trailers on the line haul (highway).

While the line haul is traditional fuel hauling between winnipeg and northern communities, the bush haul is very remote and requires drivers to have significant endurance to withstand the harsh climate and hauling conditions (amenities are not easily accessible on this haul).

KAG Canada utilizes a variety of tools to ensure drivers are adequately trained to complete the haul without incident. A training plan consistent with driver experience is established whether a driver is new to the haul or returning. There is online training, in-yard practical, customer specific, in-cab and follow trips.

  • Dedicated truck
  • All trucks come with an inverter. Other items such as a fridge, microwave, etc. are supplied by the driver (coolers and microwaves will be supplied for drivers flying in from out of province).
  • Returning bonus for drivers who return season over season.
  • Completion bonus available for all drivers who complete the contract (must adhere to incident-free driving and company policy).
  • Opportunity to extend to full-time or full-time rotational following successful seasonal contract.
  • Delay pay is available on this haul whether on the line haul or offroad/bush haul portion of the WR haul.

Drivers on the Northern Manitoba and Northern Ontario winter roads live/reset in the bunk of their truck. Drivers must bring their own nonperishable food and drinks. Meals are provided at Pickle Lake for those on the line haul.

Meals and other personal expenses incurred (cell phone charges, laundry, etc.) are the responsibility of the driver, however this cost has been factored into the WR rates (offroad/bush haul).

Either roundtrip airfare from the airport nearest the employee’s place of residence to the place of employment OR mileage up to $500 per each leg of the defined rotation (to work and home again) is provided. Expenses related to travel such as commuting to and from the airport, seat/bag check fees are not paid, nor reimbursable.

Drivers must provide suitable arctic grade clothing to wear under flame-resistant outerwear. It must include, but is not limited to: a parka, FR insulated overalls or FR insulated bib overalls, insulated green triangle, CSA steel toed boots with minimum 6 inch shaft, and mitts. An arctic grade sleeping bag is strongly recommended. Suitable clothing includes cotton base material (example Carhartt brand) or FR material. Nylon or synthetic outerwear is not acceptable (example Helly Hanson or snowmobile suits).

Safety on and off the road is paramount to KAG Canada. The Winter Road season is short in duration, but the hauling work that is done is critical to the economic viability of Canada’s north. Drivers assigned specifically and only to the offroad/bush haul portion of the MB-ON Winter Roads are provided the option to operate under the Federal Hours of Service Cycle Exemption. During this time, drivers must manage their hours of service in accordance with exemption requirements provided to the driver when choosing this Hours of Service option. Drivers hauling on the winter road remain required to use electronic logs and are monitored for compliance.
